Welcome to Year 2
Children in Years 1 & 2 follow the National Curriculum. These two years of schooling constitute Key Stage 1 and are completed by the Standard Assessment Tasks which give children levels of attainment in Literacy and Mathematics. This is a statutory assessment, the results of which, are reported to parents and monitored by the Department for Education.
In addition to English and Mathematics the National Curriculum consists of programmes of study in Science, Geography, History, Design Technology, Art, Physical Education, Music and Computing. Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is used to support learning across the curriculum in many ways. Additional activities support learning in Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE) and Religious Education (RE). In the latter case a programme of study is provided locally by The Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education (SACRE). In being a Church of England school, Sherington, is also supported by the Oxford Diocese Education Adviser.
Throughout the school year and Key Stage routine classroom learning is supported and supplemented by educational visits and field-work off the school site and by visitors offering specialised teaching and learning (egg practising artists, poets, musicians etc).
The National Curriculum has recently been reviewed by central government and school staff have worked toward a complete revision of these arrangements for implementation in 2014/15 (English and Maths for Year 1 and all other subjects for Year 1 & 2) and 2015 (English and maths for Year 2).

"Thank you for helping to instil an interest in nature and the environment and for putting up with all the little creatures; both our children and whatever they brought in! Sherington School offers such a lovely stable community to all the children. We are very lucky for our children to have attended and to have had you guiding them through their first years of education."
